Principles

  • Instructions and recovery mechanisms, not plaintext credentials. Point to a password manager's emergency-access feature, a hardware wallet's recovery process, or a specific document location. Don't paste live passwords into a folder that might be printed, emailed, or copied.
  • 00_README_AFTER_DEATH has no passwords. It's a map, not a key. Anyone can read it without gaining access to anything.
  • 05_Family_Message is optional but worth including: a note that has nothing to do with logistics, just for them.
  • The recovery threshold (commonly 2 of 3, see The LRDP Model) means this package should open even if one custodian is unavailable.
